Many mathematicians contributed to our modern world in countless ways. In t= his activity you will discover the answers to these questions and many more.

Mobile County has built a new math and science schoo= l. However, they need your help in naming the new school. You will choose one = of the mathematicians from the list provided and find out about his or her lif= e. You will then create a PowerPoint presentation. Your PowerPoint will be use= d to convince the school board that the mathematician that you chose is the best= and most worthy to have a school named after them

Process

You will be in a group of 3 or 4 students. Each memb= er will perform a specific task. Your group will choose a mathematician from t= he list provided. You will research his or her life and accomplishments. One g= roup member will be responsible for the birth and early childhood. The second me= mber will be responsible for the education. The third member will be responsible= for accomplishments. The fourth member will be responsible for death and any special qualities that make this person the best choice for the name of the school.  The group members wil= l then come together to create a power point presentation about their mathematicia= n.

 

Your research should answer the following questions:=

 

Where was he/she born?

Who were his/her parents?

What type of childhood did he/she have and where?

Did he/she get married and have any children?

Where was he/she educated?

What were his/her main accomplishment and/or contrib= utions?

How did his/her education influence his/her accomplishments/contributions?
